Siena Museums
Just one of the components of the Siena Cathedral (Duomo) is its museum which houses precious art work from the late Middle Ages in Italy. The works are generally of religious and devotional themes, and were created by such artists as Francesco Valdrambino, Pietro Lorenzetti and Ducciodi Buoninsegna.
Tour the many exhibits of Fisiocritici for information on natural history. The museum has geological, anatomical, zoological and botanical sectors.
View ancient tablets inscribed with accounts of the state as well as manuscripts and books from the very distant past at this museum. The collection is open by appointment only.
Once a hospital and orphanage, this place of caring was built in the 800s. Today the grand building houses the National Archaeological Museum of Siena. Step inside to marvel the architecture, as well as one of the oldest Italian-made stained glass pieces, a creation of Duccio in 1288.
