Casa di Santa Caterina is the birthplace and home of St. Caterina of Siena, who along with St. Francis of Assissi is a patron saint of Italy. St. Caterina was born in the house in 1355 and became a nun at eight years of age. She was renown for her good deeds and devotion to God. The rooms of the building are now chapel rooms used for reflection and devotions. Casa di Santa Caterina is open daily (hours vary per season).

Once a hospital and orphanage, this place of caring was built in the 800s. Today the grand building houses the National Archaeological Museum of Siena. Step inside to marvel the architecture, as well as one of the oldest Italian-made stained glass pieces, a creation of Duccio in 1288.
